Privacy Policy
empathera.app is designed to provide general triage guidance without requiring an account, payment, login, or advertising profile.
Information you enter
The calculator asks about symptoms, severity, duration, insurance status, state, and optional ZIP code. This information is used in your browser to generate guidance, estimated costs, and nearby care options. We do not require your name, date of birth, phone number, insurance member ID, or medical record number.
Location information
If you choose to use your current location, your browser asks for permission before sharing coordinates. Location is used to load nearby hospitals and clinics on the map. If you do not allow location access, you can enter a ZIP code instead.
Third-party services
The site uses Leaflet, OpenStreetMap map tiles, Nominatim geocoding, and Overpass facility data. These providers may receive technical information needed to serve map, geocoding, and facility requests, such as IP address, browser details, coordinates, or ZIP code search terms. The "Search nearby care" link opens Google Search in a new tab.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically process basic technical logs, including IP address, requested URL, browser type, referring page, and timestamp. Logs are used for security, debugging, abuse prevention, and reliability.
Cookies and advertising
We do not run advertising, behavioral tracking, or account cookies on this site. Third-party map services may use their own operational controls when their resources are loaded.
HIPAA and medical records
empathera.app is not a health care provider, health plan, clearinghouse, or electronic medical record system. Do not enter information that you consider highly sensitive or identifying. The tool is not intended to create, receive, maintain, or transmit protected health information on behalf of a covered entity.
Data retention
The calculator does not create a user account or save your symptom answers to an application database. Hosting logs, if generated by infrastructure providers, may be retained for operational security and reliability according to provider practices.
Your choices
- Decline browser location permission and use ZIP code search instead.
- Close the page or start over to clear the current session state in your browser.
- Use browser settings to clear cache, site data, and permissions.
Children
This site is intended for general adult use. It is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review the issue.

We may update this policy as the site changes. The effective date above shows the latest version.
